MCM Preserved In Time

Please join Modern Richmond on October 18th for a rare opportunity to tour a mid-century modern home that was originally the residence of architect James H. Arvin and his family. Arvin, who designed the house in 1959 for his new bride, worked for 42 years at Marcellus Wright Cox & Smith Architects, where he focused on spec writing, construction administration and quality control.

Arvin’s former home was recently purchased and renovated by Lauren Bell of Hint Spaces and Joey Parent, an outdoor leadership director at VCU, who have kept many of the original details; preserving in time the classic mid-century aesthetics of Arvin’s design. Their extensive furniture and art collections include the couple’s Scandinavian Modern furniture collection with several pieces by Danish Designer Borge Mogensen and work by several local artists.

Read more about the home in Doug Childers’ Sept.30, 2023 article in the Richmond Times-Dispatch "A Midcentury Modern classic undergoes a whole-house reno, but with a light touch”.

Speakers for the evening will include the owners, Lauren Bell and Joey Parent, as well as Jody Lahendro, FAIA, who worked with Jim Arvin in the early 1980s.

Doors open at 5:30 with the talk beginning at 6:10pm.

Note: At the owner's request, the location address will only be given to ticket holders.
